Individual Therapy

I work with adults of all ages to address concerns like anxiety, depression, life transitions, substance use patterns, relationship issues, and family challenges.  As a trauma therapist, I often work with people seeking to heal from childhood sexual, physical and emotional abuse, accidents and medical trauma, intimate partner violence, and other traumatic events or situations.  I practice a few specific modalities to better help me serve people dealing with trauma (see EMDR Therapy and Somatic Experiencing sections below).

EMDR

EMDR is a targeted, experiential method of processing both single-incident and chronic trauma that addresses the cognitive, emotional, and embodied aspects of memories.  Its goals are to reduce the distress associated with difficult experiences and to help people make new meaning out of memories that have kept them stuck.  I have used this method to help clients process memories such as childhood abuse and neglect, car accidents, medical traumas, and sexual and physical assault.

Somatic Experiencing

Trauma is not just stored in our memories, thoughts, and emotions; it lives in our bodies.  Somatic Experiencing is a uniquely gentle, flexible process of guiding someone to notice how and where they experience sensations in their body as they connect to a particular memory.  By offering time, space and support for what is going on in the body, I help people renegotiate difficult experiences and find new sources of strength and wisdom in their bodies.

Religious Trauma/

Faith Change

Many people find that they have been raised in religious communities or with spiritual beliefs that no longer serve them anymore.  Some have experienced spiritual abuse or trauma from a religious leader or a church community.  I love helping people unpack their spiritual and religious history, process what it means to them now, and begin to heal, whether inside or outside of their faith of origin.

Group Therapy

Group therapy, particularly in the form of an ongoing interpersonal process group, is a highly underrated form of therapy and a fantastic setting for relational and interpersonal growth.  I co-lead a weekly, ongoing, in-person process group of mixed genders, ages, and life stages, for people seeking to deepen skills related to communication and intimacy and to find help for life’s challenges in a supportive communal space.
